Carol and Yolanda

Carol and Yolanda

Last night as I was preparing for my first class I ran into two of my students. I had gone to the English office to make copies of an activity and two students recognized me as their English, I was informed today that there is a picture of me and a small bio on the school website, this is the first I’m hearing of it too. I’m still piecing together from students what it says. Any way these girls recognized me and asked about my dinner plans. To be honest I once again put off all eating plans until my stomach growls so no plans had yet been formulated.

Yolanda (I would not discover her English name until class today) asked if I would  join her an Carol at the student dining hall. I said I needed to run over to my apartment and pick up my dining card. She insisted that it was her invitation.

You could tell she was thrilled to be the first student to bring the Foreigner to Dinner. So I took a seat and she brought over my dinner. Mind you I was completely relieved to see her carry over rice and stir fry. The Chopsticks made my heart falter a bit. It is one thing to mess up in the Teacher’s Dining Hall but in the students, come on I am suppose to be gaining these guys respect not looking like a complete fool. Needless to say I still needed pointers from Yolanda through out the meal.

I was blown away by the students kind gesture for dinner. They apologized for the small dinner but I was thrilled just to share a meal with someone.  They were surprisingly chatty during the meal and a few other students came by the table and introduced themselves. They all insisted they want to be my friend this year. So I will no longer have to worry about being alone.

The Lord has always filled my life with people who always show up at just the right moment. I needed a dinner invitation more than anything else yesterday. I had been stressing about class today and just knowing two faces this morning made all the difference!
